Helena Hospice in the Home Program

Since 2000 Holy Spirit Home has provided specialist palliative care services to the Holy Spirit Home community. Initially this was via a dedicated 5 bed Unit (Helena Hospice) within the nursing home (Shalom) and now via this new programme Helena Hospice in the Home that is more attuned to the changing needs of our community. Through our new model of palliative care we continue to provide care and support for our Holy Spirit Home community via a palliative care outreach programme. This programme is in line with the contemporary model of community care that promotes caring for people in their own home where possible. There is a dedicated Helena Hospice in the Home guest room located in Shalom to meet the needs of our Holy Spirit Home retirement village residents if permanent residential or respite care is necessary.
